ReportAlert! Nestlé SA (VTX:NSEN) publishes Water Management Report
15th March, 2007

Nestlé has produced a review of the company’s thinking and initiatives on the sustainable use and protection of water resources worldwide.

The Nestlé Water Management Report, which can be found online at www.nestle.com/water, focuses on the four areas that the company believes will make a significant improvement to its water management: exercising direct control over its manufacturing operations, educating stakeholders, encouraging farmers to promote good water management, and sharing Nestlé’s expertise in the global water management arena.

Among examples of measures undertaken are:

a 29 per cent reduction in the amount of water used in all operations over the past decade, even though production volume has almost doubled over that period
point training more than 400,000 teachers in over 20 countries on awareness, appreciation, knowledge and stewardship of water resources. This is being done in partnership with the Water Education for Teachers organization
point engagement with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and other bodies to improve the state of water management

The report has been prepared with the help of international specialists, among them Professor Ismail Serageldin, founding chair of the Global Water Partnership and founding governor of the World Water Council. A stakeholder engagement exercise was also undertaken with AccountAbility International.

The report also summarizes Nestlé’s progress against the United Nations Global Compact’s environment-related principles.

Nestlé remains convinced that dialogue and cooperation are the most effective means of addressing the global water management issue, and would welcome your own views on this subject. Please do not hesitate to feedback online at www.nestle.com/water

Nestlé is the world’s biggest food and beverage company, with factories or operations in almost every country in the world. With its global headquarters in Vevey, Switzerland, the company employs over 250,000 people and is committed to bringing the best and most relevant products to people worldwide.
