Shell: Helping build responsible energy future

Royal Dutch Shell plc has released its 12th Sustainability Report at www.shell.com/responsible

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has confirmed that it is an A+ level report under its G3 Guidelines.

The Report describes the company’s ongoing efforts despite the recession to help meet one of the defining challenges facing society this century: providing more energy and lower CO2 emissions.

It illustrates how Shell is:
Staying the course and keeping a long-term view in these tough economic times.
Increasing its production in cleaner-burning natural gas, which could grow from 45% of production in 2008 to more than half in 2012.
Investing $1.2 billion in research and development – more than its competitors – to develop the technologies needed, like carbon capture and storage and advanced biofuels, to produce more and cleaner energy.
Providing customers with cleaner products, like Shell Economy Formula and Shell FuelSave fuels.
Stepping up advocacy efforts with governments - calling for an effective international policy framework for CO2 management with a price for emitting CO2.

The Report also includes an interview with Chief Executive Jeroen van der Veer that discusses Shell's role in helping build a responsible energy future.

For the fourth year, an independent External Review Committee has reviewed and assessed the Report's balance, completeness and responsiveness. The Committee's assessment is included in the Report unedited by Shell.

Hard copies of the Report and Shell's Sustainability Review, an eight-page summary of the main Report, can be ordered from bbs@shellbankside.co.uk
