Export Development Canada publishes Corporate Social Responsibility Report 2008 - Trade That Matters

Export Development Canada (EDC), Canada's export credit agency, has issued its fifth Annual Report on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) available in English at www.edc.ca/csrreport2008 and in French at www.edc.ca/rapportrse2008.

“In today’s environment, issues have become much more complex and expectations surrounding corporate social responsibility are constantly evolving - there is no final state for CSR. The more business we do around the world, the more we see that sustained success comes from doing business responsibly. This is why we have embedded CSR as an operating principle at EDC, and why our practices and policies continue to evolve and grow,” said Eric Siegel, President and CEO of EDC.

The report highlights EDC initiatives such as:

a review of CSR strategy

release of a Statement on Human Rights

investment in the first university Chair in Environmental Finance in Canada

launch of a four-year global community investment partnership with CARE Canada

investment in the China Environment Fund.

Lessons learned include:

need to further embed CSR into our business strategy

continue work to fully implement a standardized process for human rights

more effort is to understand, measure and minimize our operational footprint, including an examination of GHG emissions related to our portfolio.
