Hess Corporation (NYSE: HES) released its 2009 Corporate Sustainability Report this week -- a comprehensive look at the environment, health, safety and social responsibility programs that distinguish the company and its subsidiaries worldwide. Hess Corporation’s 13th annual sustainability report provides expanded coverage of the company’s 2009 accomplishments, challenges and opportunities, including progress on climate change, human rights and anti-corruption, social investment strategy and employee development and diversity.

These significant achievements are noted:

A 27 percent reduction in workforce recordable incident rate, and no workforce fatalities;

An 11 percent reduction in GHG intensity toward a five-year goal of 20 percent reduction by 2013;

A 45 percent reduction in combined flaring by operations in Algeria and Equatorial Guinea toward a five-year goal of 50 percent combined flaring reduction by 2013;

Continued nationwide transformation of primary education for 34,000 students and their educators in Equatorial Guinea; and

Development of a new corporate Human Rights Policy and expanded Social Responsibility Policy.
